Caring, Kind, Friendly and Safe…
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your help in making a smooth transition into Sept. We have had a great start!
BOKS Before School Physical Activity Program Starts Sept. 24. It runs Tuesday & Thursday mornings 8-8:50am. The program is for Gr. 1 to 6 students. For K students, we need parent supervision. Forms that were sent via email must be filled out by parents and sent back to teachers/ or the office by Sept. 17. We are looking for volunteer parents to help out, please see the form for more info.
Wash your face and comb your hair. Look your best for the photo day. The photo day is on Tues, the 17th.
Scholastic Book Fair
The scholastic book fair will be coming to Squamish Elementary Library on Sept. 18th-20th. That’s only one week away! What an exciting way to start off the year. Take a sneak peek at the books that will be coming by checking out the display case across from the office.
Mark the date in your calendar! The welcome BBQ is scheduled for Thurs, Sept 19th from 6 pm to 8 pm. The school will provide the hamburgers, hotdogs and veggie burgers. The families are asked to bring a side dish to share. Everyone is welcome! The Book Fair will be open during the BBQ.
Terry Fox Run
Terrance Stanley “Terry” Fox was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated due to cancer, he embarked on an east to west cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. In his memory, we are going to be running on Fri, the 20th at 11 am. Families are welcome to join the run.
BC schools are required to have immunization records of all students this fall. Please bring a copy of your child’s record and the school will be passing them onto the public health unit.
PAC (Parent Advisory Council)
The PAC at Squamish Elementary is a great way to be involved in your child’s school experience. Come work with a fun, active, passionate and collaborative team of parents. You can contribute however much or little time as you want/can. It is a very welcoming group and we love having new members. We meet monthly for a few hours. Join us September 26th at 6pm in the school library for our first meeting of the year. Childcare is provided. We hope to see you there. Feel free to message if you have any questions.
As some of you are aware, some drugs and paraphernalia have been found on school grounds. Basic information sheet Teaching Children about Needle Safety was shared with the teachers so that they could talk to the children. We are working closely with the school health nurse and the RCMP to keep our children safe. There are presentations planned for the classes. In the meantime, the RCMP is increasing their patrol of our property during afterhours. We are also asking for parent volunteers to sweep the playground and the field before school. Please let me know if you can help. As well, it would be helpful for the parents to talk to their children about drug safety.
Criminal Records Check
If you want to volunteer for fieldtrips, you will need an up to date Criminal Records Check. The results will be sent to our office in 1-2 weeks. Please come into the office for the paperwork.
Parking lot Safety
We are asking you to be caring, friendly and safe when dropping off, picking up and parking at the school.
School fee for supplies is $40 per student. Please pay online
Cash or cheque can be brought to the classroom teacher.
