Crazy Hat Day

Monday is Crazy Hat Day.  Wear your funky hat to school.

Glee Club

Do you like singing and dancing?  Then the Glee Club is for you.  It’s open to Gr. 3 to 6 on Wed at lunch in the Music room starting next week.  Melissa Braun from the SAM will be directing.  Thank you to the PAC for sponsoring.

Vote for your Yearbook Cover

Students are invited to vote for their favorite cover for the 2020 Year book. The four choices are on the display case window in the lobby.  You can cast your vote at the office until the end of next week. One vote per person.

Tobacco/Vaping Prevention Presentation

On Thurs, there will be a presentation for the Gr. 5/6 students on tobacco and vaping prevention.

Clan meeting

There will be another Clan meeting on Fri, Nov 22nd.

Floor Hockey for Gr. 5/6

Floor Hockey for Gr. 5/6 students is starting up.  The students will play other schools on Tuesdays starting on Nov 26th.  Thank you to Mr. Dion and Ms Vanessa for coaching.  Practices are Tue and Fri at lunch.

Community Christmas Care

Starting on Fri, Nov 29th (Writing Day), we are collecting no-perishable food items, treats, toys, gift cards for making up hampers for the Community Christmas Care.  Thank you ahead for your generosity.

Writing Day

We will be writing to Santa and relatives on the morning of Fri, Nov 29th.  Families are encouraged to come and help write.

French Book Sale

Come to visit the French Book sale on Nov 29th (Writing Day) from 8:30 to 10:30 am.  There will be a wide variety of easy readers, picture books, novels, graphic novels and activity books all in French.  Cash only please.

Library Help

The Library is looking for Volunteers for the Savoir French book Sale! If you are available to help sell books from 8:30-9:30 or 9:30-10:30am on November 29th please email Ms. Antonios at rantonios@sd48.bc.ca

Elf’s Workshop Shopping Day

Do you have items you no long use?  Toys, books, games, ties, mugs, scarves, jewelry etc.  We are looking for donations for items that the students can shop for their family members.  Please bring the items to the office.

Intermediate Cross Country Team
The last Cross Country meet was on this week. Congratulations to the athletes. Thank you to Mr. Parker for coaching.

Remembrance Day assembly
Thank you to Ms Parker for organizing a lovely Remembrance Day assembly. Thank you to Mr.Georgy-Embree for the bagpipe music and Ms Parker’s students for running the assembly.

Eagle Watch presentations
The wintering bald eagles are beginning to arrive in the Squamish Valley following the spawningsalmon. Some of the classes are involved in the Eagle Watch presentations this week followedby FTs the Brackendale Dike next week.

EagleWatch

The opening ceremony for this season is on Sat, Nov 9th at 10 am in the Eagle Run Viewing Area at Brackendale Dike.

Welcome back to Ms Lapointe from her medical leave on Monday.  Thank you to Ms Crighton for doing a wonderful job with the class!

Garbage Reduction Week

Congratulations to Mr. Georgy-Embree’s class for winning the garbage challenge.  Their total amount of garbage over week was an impressive 256g!

School Spirit Wear

School Spirit Wear is on sale. Please go to: www.squamish.hotlunches.net and simply use your current hot lunch account.  Select “Managing Orders” tab and scroll to bottom of page to find the Spirit Wear Tab and input your order there.  If you don’t have a hot lunch account, simply register using the school code SHL.  ORDERS ARE DUE NOVEMBER 8th FOR A MID DECEMBER DELIVERY.  There are hooded sweatshirts, sweatpants, zip hooded sweatshirts, and T-shirts for sale.

Popcorn Day and Spirit Wear/School Colours Day

Monday is popcorn day.  Only $1 a bag.  You can also wear school spirit wear or blue and white.

Intermediate Cross Country Team

The team did very well at this week’s meet in Pemberton. The last Cross Country meet is on Nov 7th.  We will be hosting other schools.  Thank you to Mr. Parker for coaching.

Remembrance Day assembly

We will be participating in the Remembrance Day assembly on Fri, Nov 8th at 11 am. Families are welcome to attend. Monday is the Remembrance Day and the school will be closed on the holiday.

Poppies

Poppies will be distributed to students next week. Please support the veterans and their families with your donations.  Donations can be brought to the classroom teachers.

Diwali Celebrations

Diwali is a festival of lights.  To celebrate, we will have henna (thank you to Ms Parm and parents) and a samosa sale ($2 each) at lunch on Monday.

We Scare Hunger

Did you know that 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy lifestyle? For the next 2 weeks, the leadership students at Squamish Elementary are collecting non-perishable food items for our community. As a school, if we collect over 600 non-perishable food items we will cover Mrs. Cho in silly string! Squamish Elementary, please help us We Scare Hunger! Bring your nonperishable food items to school until Oct 31st. Please place them on the table in the lobby!

Halloween Parade

There will be a Halloween Parade for all primary students on Thurs at 9:15 am

Can-ival

The Leadership students will be running games on Thurs afternoon in the gym. You can play one game per can donation so bring as many cans as possible!

Nov 1st District Implementation Day

Fri, Nov 1st is the District Implementation Day.  The staff of ESQE will be learning more about Indigenous Education.  The school will be closed for students.

Student Vote

Thank you to the Leadership students, Mme Garlock and Mme Paquette, the students were able to learn about the federal parties and participate in a Student Vote.   The students of ESQE voted most for the Green Party.

Garbage Reduction Week

October 21 to 25 is Garbage Reduction Week.  The Earth Kids are planning a Garbage Reduction Week Challenge to challenge us to make as little waste as possible.  They will be making a daily morning announcement with tips to help us reduce the amount of garbage we make. As well, each class is weighing the garbage produced at the end of the day and recording.  The winning class will be announced at the end of the day Thursday.  On Tuesday, October 29th, the class who produced the least amount of garbage will celebrate with a pizza party.  Thanks for supporting Garbage Reduction Week!

A Book for Every Child

A Book for Every Child program is on again this year. The two classes picked for the month of Oct are Ms Flamank’s and Mme Petre’s classes.  In every month, we will pick two classes for gifting each child with a book of their choice for home reading.

White Hatter Presentation

We are hosting the White Hatter Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship presentation on Monday for our intermediate students.  For more info, go to
