***Literacy Week K/1 Story Night***

There will be a story night on Wednesday, January 22th from 6-6:45pm for Kindergarten and grade one students and their parents.  Come listen to some great stories in the Library. Don’t forget to wear your PJs!  Cookies and milk will be provided.

Literacy Week (Jan. 20th – 24th)

Literacy week is a great opportunity for our school and community to promote literacy and foster a life-long love of reading in our students.  Throughout the week students will take part in a school-wide Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.), engage in literacy activities and be visited by guest readers! We will be wrapping up Literacy Week by inviting all parents to come to SQE and read with their child/children on Friday January 24th from 9-9:30am in their classrooms. We hope to see you there!

Our next Library challenge is kicking off! Complete a Book Review sheet from the library for every book you read and submit it back to the Library to be entered. Tell us what you think of each book and give it a rating out of 5 stars! Each completed Book Review is an entry into a book draw. The Book Review Challenge will be ending on February 28th.

Reading Link Challenge

The Reading Link Challenge is a province-wide program for the students in grades 4-6 that promotes the “sport of reading.”  In teams of six, children read and become familiar with a set of six selected books.  The program is run as a series of quiz/trivia challenges with winning teams advancing to higher levels of competition. At the first challenge level, teams within a school compete with each other answering questions about characters, plots and settings.  The winning team at each school then goes on to the next challenge level competing against other schools. Children learn about teamwork and how to read for retention.  Reading Link Challenge also promotes library usage and encourages children to develop a lifelong habit of reading for pleasure. Intermediate students who are interested in participating in the Reading Link Challenge need to hand in their completed application forms to the Library ASAP! The books will be distributed to the students at lunch on Monday. If you need a form, please come get one from the Library.

Five Book Challenge

Next week is the final week to complete the Library’s 5 book Challenge.  Read read read! All completed sheets need to be entered into the entry box by Dec. 6th.
